Betty Crawford Obituary

Mother Betty Crawford, 74, departed this life Sunday December 2, 2018 in Florence County. She was the mother of Shirlena Crawford and Kevin Crawford. You may visit the family at 404 Murray St. Marion.

Wake services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel Wednesday December 5, 2018 at 6:00 pm -8:00 pm. Lily of Valley #264 OES will be in charge of the rites.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Marion Thursday December 6, 2018 at 12:00 noon. She will be laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Marion.

~ Obituary~

Ms. Betty Crawford, daughter of the late Deacon Joseph Johnson and Mrs. Orgae M. Johnson was born April 11, 1944 and departed this life December 2, 2018. She was educated in the public schools of Marion County, graduating from Palmetto High School.

Betty was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully until the end of her life. She sang on the Cathedral Choir, the A.C.R. Singers and the Mass Choir. Her melodious, soprano voice was a gift from God and she used it to bring joy to there saints of God. She was also a member of the Pastor’s Support Ministry, the Hospitality Ministry and the HELPS Ministry. Betty worked as a Deaconess and discharged those duties faithfully on each first Sunday of the month. She was the Chairperson of the Senior Citizens Ministry for many years and worked to bring an annual celebration to the Seniors of Pleasant Grove. She loved Sunday school and each Sunday Morning found her attendance in the Senoir Women’s Class. As a member of the Missionary Society, Betty served on the local, district and state Missionary Auxiliary. On the Local Auxiliary she attended monthly meeting, served families in need of assistance and worked in every capacity of the Auxiliary. On the District Auxiliary, she served on the Registration Committee for the Annual Convention and also worked with the Queen Committee for many years.

She served on the South Carolina Baptist E & M Women’s Auxiliary Devotional Committee and was committed to praying, praising and singing at each Annual Convention.

Betty was a member of the Lily of the Valley Order of Eastern Star #264. For many years she served as the treasurer for this organization. Betty’s employment included: Heritage Sportswear, Sara Lee Hosiery and Remcare Incorporation. At Remcare, Betty served as Administrative Assistant for twenty years and greeted all customers with a big smile and a testimony about the goodness of the Lord. She had a work ethic that was superb; never later, dutiful, committed and dedicated.

Betty was married to the late Liston Crawford and to this union two children were born; Kevin Crawford and Shirlena Crawford. She leaves to cherish her memories her two children; Kevin and Shirlena of the home, her mother; Mrs. Orgae M. Johnson of Mullins SC, three sisters; Lillie (Wilbert) Pee of Marion, SC, Dorothy (Charles) Gilchrist of Charleston SC, Rachel (Edward) Mason of Marion, SC, one brother Joseph Jr. (Lula) of Elliott City, Maryland, eight nieces and nephews, a special cousin; Wilma Latigue, special friends that she communicated with daily and weekly; Doris Williamson, Mirian Adkins and Mollie Floyd and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
