Bro. Roosevelt Brown 79, departed this life on Wednesday August 16, 2017 in Charleston SC. He was the husband of Daphne Brown. Service arrangements are scheduled for 1:00pm Saturday August 26, 2017. He will be laid to rest in the Jackson & Daughters Cemetery, Marion.

Roosevelt Brown, 79, was born October 01, 1937 in Timmonsville, SC. to the late Isaiah Brown and late Betsy McClam Brown of Florence, SC. As a child growing up his family and friends knew him as “Snook”. Roosevelt was the fourth of seven children; Willie “Mack” Brown (Myrlee) (both deceased), Ozell (Dorothy) Brown (both deceased), Howard (Ree) Brown, Frances Brown (Robert) Lee and two other brothers (deceased). Roosevelt moved to New York City in the early 60’s after leaving the military, and began his career at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he met the love his life Daphne Brown, an island girl from Jamaica, West Indies. He worked as a janitor and after receiving many certificates and his degree he became Director of Housekeeping at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, now called New York Presbyterian Hospital. Roosevelt retired after working in the NYC hospital system for 27 years. This gave him time to do a lot of fishing because he was an avid fisherman; a hobby he never grew tired of. He also loved to cook. Roosevelt became an entrepreneur. He started R. Brown Enterprise Inc., his own janitorial business. Roosevelt started growing home sick, and sold his business and moved back home to South Carolina in 1990.

Roosevelt surrendered his life to Christ in the early 2000’s, and was a member of St. John Church of the Nazarene in Florence, SC. The Pastor was the late Reverend Eddie Sipp. He wanted to do more for others so he worked in the Food Bank Ministry, he did not like to see anyone go hungry. He would spend his days visiting with family, the widows, and senior citizens. He spent a lot of time with his oldest cousins Robert Green, and Lena Mae Harrell.
