Bro. Leverne Whittington, 76, departed this life on Monday December 4, 2017 in Florence SC. He was the husband of Bertha Whittington. You may visit the family at 1212 West Sellers Rd. Sellers, SC.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Sellers Chapel Baptist Church, Sellers, SC. ,Friday December 8, 2017 at 12:00 noon. He will be laid to rest in the Sellers Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

OBITUARY

“For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of god an house not made with hands eternal in the heavens.” 1 Corinthians 5:1

On Monday, December 4, 2017, God sent an angel from heavens to retrieve a warrior whom had fought a good fight to bring him home “My Child,” he called and Leverne reached out and took his hand.

Leverne (Strike) Whittington was born in Marion County, SC, on May 26, 1941 to the late Elihue and Lucy Whittington.

Leverne attended Dillon County Public Schools. He was employed at Russell Stover Candies in Marion, SC and Daniels Construction of Florence, SC.

At an early age he became affiliated with Sellers Chapel Baptist Church where he served as Trustee and remained until death.

Leverne was joined in holy matrimony to Berth Mae Whittington on October 8, 1960, for 57 years. From this union God bless them with one daughter, Sylvia Whittington.

Leverne had two sisters and four brothers to precede him in death.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories; his loving wife Bertha M. Whittington of the home. Two daughters Sylvia Whittington of the home and Sharon D. Atkins of Columbia, SC, one son Marvin (Laurecia) Sellers of Hopkinsville, KY, seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, one grandchild he raised as his own Montricus Whittington. Three sisters; Bernice Kirton, Earnestine Whittington of Sellers, SC and Barbara Jean Miles of Hope Mill, NC., five sisters-in laws; Lillian (George) Robinson, Barbara Ann (Leroy) James, Mary (Elvis) Braddy of Marion, SC, Lizzie Wright of Wilmington, Delaware and Gloria Johnson of Alabama, six brothers-in-laws; Samuel (Carolyn) Durant of Newark, NJ, Wesley Durant of Latta, SC, Marcus Durant of Wilmington, Delaware, Willie Johnson of Georgia and Charles Johnson of Philadelphia, Penn. and Anthony Watson of Columbia, SC, special nephews; Earnest Whittington, Levon, Kirton, Leon Allen, Anthony Singletary and Ricky Singletary, special friend; James Roberts, and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives.
