Mother Gwendolyn V. Johnson 74, departed this life on Sunday May 14, 2017 in Florence, SC. You may visit the family  at 2569 Oakridge Rd. Gresham, SC. Funeral services  are scheduled for 2 o'clock Sunday May 21, 2017 at the Soul Chapel AME Church, Gresham, SC. She  will be laid to rest in the Soul Chapel AME Church Cemetery, Gresham, SC.

John 14:1-4

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive unto you myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whiter I go ye know, and the way ye know.”

Gwendolyn V. Johnson was one of fourteen children born on November 20, 1942, to the late Arnold and Lucille Johnson in Gresham, SC. Gwendolyn was educated in the Marion County School System. Gwendolyn was employed with Yacht’s Mon Resort and Russell
Stover Candies.

For most of her life, Gwendolyn resided in Gresham SC , where she was a faithful member of Soul Chapel AME Church. Gwendolyn was the head of the cooking committee. She loved the Lord, her family and she loved to cook. Gwendolyn was well known for her biscuits that everyone loved.

She departed this life on Sunday May 14, 2017 at Carolina Hospital System, Florence, SC. Life for many of us will be difficult without Gwendolyn’s physical presence, but to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. She has left a legacy of love, strength, and memories in the hearts of all that she has touched.

She was preceded in death by one son Jamie Johnson, three sisters and eight brothers.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories three children; Tyrone (Valentina) Johnson, Nashville Tennessee, Eric (Allison) Johnson, Florence, SC, and Darriel Johnson, Gresham SC, one special daughter; Sherry Johnson, four grandchildren; Cherlina Rogers, Kwandra Johnson, Ja’Nayia Johnson and Eric Johnson Jr., two special great grand –children Dajah Cameron and Zhandria Nichols; one great grandchild; Daniel Asbury III, one sister; Annie J. Dickerson and one brother; Olin Johnson, four sisters-in-law; Thelma, Lillian, Roxanne and Roberta, three special friends; Eunice L. Williams, Maxine Gasque, and Yvonnie Davis (Wobbie), and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
