Bro. Eddie Godbold Jr. 78, departed this life on Friday July 28, 2017 in the Duke Medical Center. He was the father of Dr. Milton Godbold and Gregory Godbold. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00pm Saturday August 5, 2017 at the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, Marion. He will be laid to rest in the White Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Gresham.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct thy path. (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

 

Brother Eddie L. Godbold Jr. departed this life on Friday, July 28th, 2017 at 08:59 PM while at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.  He was born in Gresham, South Carolina, the son of the late Mr. Eddie and Mrs. Agnes W. Godbold. At an early age his mother passed away, and his father remarried Miss Wilhelmina Grice, who shared in caring for him, along with his grandparents, Mr. Duncan and Sally Godbold and godmother, Mrs. Effie Abraham.  He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle whose love and compassion will be missed.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Rev. Earnest Godbold and Jerome Godbold, and friend Barbara Haynes.  He attended St. Paul Baptist Church in Gresham, SC where he became a member and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

After graduating from Terrell’s Bay High School, in Centenary, SC in 1958.  Brother Eddie moved to Newark, NJ where he met and married Juanita Taylor of Hemingway, SC, they had two sons, Greg and Milton Godbold, and purchased a house in Newark. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction and later drove tractor trailers for the Rivers Produce company prior to starting his own trucking business.  Brother Eddie was a member of “The House of God Church” and the International Masons in Newark NJ.  He was also instrumental in the relocation of his younger brothers from Marion, SC to Newark, NJ.

Later in life, he relocated back to Marion, SC and reconnected with St. Paul Baptist Church.  He continued his passions of driving tractor trailers, and working at the Baker Construction Company while residing on the Godbold family farm.

Eddie is loved and remembered by his two sons Greg Godbold (Altermease) of Martinez,GA  , and Dr. Milton Godbold (Tina) of Newtown, PA; Grandchildren: Isha Godbold of Martinez, GA and Miles Godbold of Newtown; Brothers: Mr. Leon Godbold (Tracy) of Marion, SC and Mr. Leroy Godbold of East Orange, NJ, and Foster brother Johnny L. Hughes of East Windsor, NJ; Sisters: Mrs. Helen Williams of Thompson, GA and Mrs. Norma L. Isreal (James) of Florence, SC; Sister In-Laws: Mary Godbold Rowell of Marion, SC, Leacy Godbold of Marion, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
