Barbara Alvetta Farmer-Dorsey, wife of Lee Dorsey, entered into eternal rest on May 5th, 2017. Born on August 28th, 1941 in Sumter, South Carolina, she was the third of eight children to the late Mr. Alfray R. Farmer and Mrs. Thelma Sumter Farmer. At an early age, she accepted Christ into her life, and was a member of her home church, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Sumter, SC. Barbara attended Lincoln High School in Sumter, South Carolina.

After branching out and expanding her education and gaining important life experience and knowledge in Paterson, New Jersey, Barbara decided to return home to South Carolina. She settled her family down in Marion, S.C., made numerous friendships and rooted herself in Saint John AME Church, where she served on the Usher Board, and the Trustee Board. Along with the devotion to her church and family, Barbara also had a love for the beauty of nature which resulted in her gardening.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving and wonderful husband, Lee Dorsey; 4 blessed children; Natasha Bundick, Columbia, SC; Antonio (Brett) Bundick, Charlotte, NC; Deric (Kimberly) Farmer, Sumter, SC; Stanley (Charm) Brinkley, Manassas, VA; and Robin Bullock, Patterson, NJ. Barbara also leaves 8 grandchildren; Kelsie Bundick and Kamryn Bundick, Columbia, SC; Lafelton Farmer, Columbia, SC; Brandy (Jermaine) Samul, Trevor Farmer, Ashton Farmer, Bria Farmer, and Dericia Farmer, all of Sumter, SC. And one special great-grandchild, Jordyn Gillyard, Columbia, SC.

Barbara is also survived by three loving siblings, Willie Van (Sandra) Farmer, Ormond Beach, FL; Velma “Doll” Banks, Sumter, SC; and Constance “Connie” (David) Weston, Sumter, SC., three sisters in law; Earline Holland, Sumter, SC, Celestine Parker, Columbia, SC and Mazie Alston, one brother in law Liston Dorsey, Florence, SC. She lovingly leaves a special Aunt, Ms. Thomasina “Tommie” Anderson, Paterson, NJ. With such a large and loving family, she also leaves to cherish her wonderful memories, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her Mother and Father; Mr. Alfray R. Farmer and Mrs. Thelma Sumter Farmer, one sister; Joyce Farmer, and three brothers; Earl “Bobby” Parker, Alfray “Dickie” Farmer, and James Ernest Holland
